Electoral Meditations
I am not Jesus.
Look at me.
I look as Jesus might have looked, they say.
A revolutionary, he
tore down the markets of
our sacred false belief.
And I?
From very young
they said I must be he
who might just bring
a new salvation here to everyone.
The nuns would gaze into my eyes
and tell me I was he.
I am not Jesus now
I never will be he.
And I will speak my heart.
Then if they kill me,
place the nails in my hands.
I will be closer yet to thee.
There is no fear, no pain
beyond the pain of disillusion
we have made
to live our lives in.
God take me to thee anytime now
for there is nothing on this earth
beyond what thou canst offer me.
Beyond my hope.
Beyond despair.
Just look at how our nations fight.
Come, help me stand upon this earth
so I can lead the nations in my heart
to find a better way,
to bring this failing earth
to be a peaceful garden once again.
I turn my other cheek to thee.
